Scottsdale Airport (SCF) is a municipally owned public airport located in Scottsdale, Maricopa County, Arizona. It was originally built to serve as a flight training school during World War II, and is now designated as a relief airport to relieve congestion at the region's largest commercial airports (Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport). The airport master plan currently does not allow commercial flights due to noise issues. However, it is a major general aviation airport, especially convenient for corporate aircraft.
In fact, it is the busiest single-runway airport in the country, with nearly 133,000 landings and takeoffs every year. The Arizona Conference of Seventh-day Adventists purchased the airport in 1953 and founded the Thunderbird Academy. In 1966, the City of Scottsdale purchased the airfield portion of the academy's property from the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and has owned and operated it ever since. Landmark Aviation and Scottsdale AirCenter are the airport's two fixed operators, offering excellent facilities and maintenance services.
They provide private flights serving the neighboring cities of Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler and Scottsdale. Scottsdale Airport is an important economic asset for Scottsdale and the region, contributing hundreds of millions of dollars in economic output. It is also home to Civil Air Patrol Squadrons 314 and 310, which assist with on-demand field missions. If you're looking for a convenient way to travel around Arizona or beyond, Scottsdale Airport is an excellent option. With its two fixed operators offering excellent facilities and maintenance services, you can be sure that your flight will be safe and comfortable.
